LiftMaster 821LMC-S Guide

This guide covers everything you need to know about the LiftMaster 821LMC-S, including installation and setup.

Specifications

  • Smart Garage Control can control up to 2 garage door openers (requires a second sensor, sold separately).
  • Smart Garage Control can control up to 16 myQ accessories.
  • Operating temperature: -4°to 149°F (-20° to 65°C)
  • For use with sectional garage doors ONLY.
  • The garage door MUST have safety sensors installed.
  • Smart Garage Control is NOT compatible with gate operators.

Installation

Mount the Door Sensor

Mount the door sensor (top facing up) with the included hook and loop adhesive strips or optional screws to a clean, dry area on top panel of garage door as shown.


Choose the Hub Location

Find an area on the ceiling, a side wall, or opposing wall to the garage door that is:

  • At least 6 feet above the ground.
  • Within 5 feet of an outlet.
  • Where the hub and light is visible at all times from within the garage.
  • 4 feet away from any metal objects.


Mount the Hub

  1. With the arrow facing up, use the mounting plate to mark the drill holes.
  2. Drill holes using a 5/32" bit.
  3. Insert drywall anchors until they are flush with the surface.
  4. Attach the mounting plate with screws.
  5. Place the hub on the mounting plate at an angle and rotate until secure.
  6. Note: Wrap excess power cable around the hub and mounting bracket.

  7. Attach the warning placard on the wall next to the door control.

Wi-Fi Setup

Method 1: Using Internet Connected Device

  1. Make note of the home 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi's network name and its associated security key/password.
  2. Plug in the MyQ Smart Garage Hub. The blue LED blinks.
  3. Verify Wi-Fi is enabled on the laptop, tablet, or mobile device.
  4. Locate the list of available Wi-Fi networks and select MyQ-nnn network. The nnn is the last three digits of the MyQ SMart Garage Hub's serial number.
    • Android typically shows internet not available after selecting the MyQ-nnn network. This is expected, and if it gives the option to Ignore or Cancel, click Ignore.
    • Once the phone is connected to the MyQ-nnn network, the blue light on the MyQ Smart Garage Hub goes from blinking blue to a solid blue LED.
  5. Launch the mobile device's web browser and enter setup.myqdevice.com into the web browser's address bar. If unable to load try using a different browser.
    • Alternatively, enter 192.168.0.1 in the URL bar to navigate to the same web page.
    • Note: Always type in the full URL address, do not let it auto complete, and do not type www or Https before the web address.

  6. Follow the steps in the MyQ Wi-Fi Setup page to complete the setup. It is required to enter the Wi-Fi name and password for the home network.
  7. When prompted, do not install the MyQ Garage app. When the LED light is solid green, Wi-Fi connection has been established and you may close the internet browser.

Method 2: Using WPS

  1. Put the Hub into WPS mode: With Hub powered and blue LED blinking, press and release the Hub's button. The Hub's blue LED turns on solid.
  2. Within 1 minute, press and release the WPS button on the router.
  3. Within a few minutes, the Hub connects to the network. The green LED turns on solid to indicate successful connection.

Method 3: Using Bluetooth (iPhone Users Only)

  1. Plug in the MyQ Smart Garage Hub. The blue LED blinks.
  2. Connect the Apple mobile device to the Wi-Fi network.
  3. On the Apple mobile device , go to Settings > Bluetooth, and turn on Bluetooth.
  4. Find the Bluetooth MyQ-nnn device and select MyQ-nnn device to pair. The nnn is the last 3 digits of the MyQ Smart Garage Hub's serial number.
  5. When prompted, allow phone to share Wi-Fi network settings with the MyQ Smart Garage Hub (this may take a minute). When the LED light turns green the device has successfully connected to the Wi-Fi network.
  6. Important: Do not choose to install the LiftMaster iPhone application.


Connect to Alarm.com

Once the Hub has been connected to the Wi-Fi network using one of the methods listed above, follow these steps to connect the Hub to your Alarm.com account.

  1. Verify the LED on the Hub is solid green before registering through the Alarm.com desktop website.
  2. Log in to the Alarm.com desktop website.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Manage Devices.
  5. Click Add Device.
  6. Click Garage Door.
  7. Click MyQ Smart Garage Hub.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the device installation.

LED Color Status Troubleshooting Steps
Blinking blue and green The hub was unable to connect to your home's Wi-Fi router.
  • Check router compatibility and settings.
  • Check the Wi-Fi signal.
  • Unplug power to the router and plug it back in.
  • Reset the hub.
Blinking blue The hub is attempting to connect to your home Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify you entered the correct password for your home Wi-Fi network.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
  • Check the Wi-Fi signal.
Solid blue The hub was unable to connect to your home Wi-Fi network.
  • Unplug power to your hub and plug it back in. If it's not blinking blue, press and hold the gear button until the LED goes to a blinking blue.
  • Turn off the feature in your mobile device settings to automatically switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
Blinking green The hub was unable to connect to the myQ internet server.
  • Unplug power to the router and plug it back in.
  • Make sure the router TCP/UDP port 8883 is open.
Solid green The hub has successfully connected to the myQ server. N/A
Solid amber Door button 1 or 2 has been pressed. Press the test button on the door sensor to pair the sensor with the hub.
Blinking amber Door sensor is pairing to the hub. N/A
No LED No power to the hub. Check the power connection.
