Text Message Alarm Notifications
Brinks Home™ customers that opt-in to text message alarm notifications can receive a text message during alarm events.
When you receive notice via text message that your alarm has been triggered, you will now be able to respond to advise if the alarm is false or to request dispatch. This text alert and procedure applies to burglar alarms only.
With text message alarm notifications, primary contacts who are enrolled will receive texts when an alarm is triggered and will be able to either cancel or verify the alarm. If we do not receive a response to the text message within sixty (60) seconds, we will follow our standard procedure, which will include reaching out via telephone to see if you are okay and sending help if we are unable to verify your safety.
All primary contacts on your account are automatically opted in to receive alarm text messages and will receive a text from Brinks Home explaining this new feature. Only primary contacts can receive text messages for an alarm event, not secondary contacts. If you do not want to receive text message alarm notifications, you can opt out any time in the Brinks Home Customer Portal or the Brinks Home Mobile App.
How It Works
- If a burglar alarm is triggered, an SMS message will be sent from Brinks Home to all primary contacts unless they have chosen to opt out of these messages. Standard text messaging rates will apply.
- The text message will identify the type and location of the alarm signal received by Brinks Home.
- • You will be able to reply Y or Yes to the text message if you would like Brinks Home to contact emergency services.
- • You will be able to reply N or No to the text message if you would like Brinks Home to disregard this alarm.
- This is an automated process that will not accept responses other than Y or Yes, or N or No. Should we receive a different response, Brinks Home will proceed with attempting to dispatch responding authorities. Please note we cannot guarantee cancellation of a dispatch. Some areas have policies against cancellations, and it is possible, depending on how long it has been since the dispatch, that the authorities have already arrived.
- If you cancel the alarm or request emergency services through the text message within sixty (60) seconds, you will not receive a phone call from our monitoring center. Our monitoring center will only call you if the primary contacts do not respond to the text message.
- Since the text messages go directly to the phone numbers provided for your primary contacts, a code word is not required to cancel alarms via text.
- If you or another primary contact responds No to request cancellation of the alarm via text message, but another primary contact responds Yes to request dispatch via text message, the request for help and dispatch of emergency services will always take priority to ensure you are always protected.
